Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division began in 1923 with the thought that no one should have to commit a crime in order to provide food or clothing for their family, especially if there are children in the household. For 88 years the Sunshine Division has been able to help families in the Portland area by providing them with fundamental basics such as food and clothing during times of need. The Sunshine Division provide assistance to a wide array of individuals; many of them never anticipating the need for assistance. But when that situation arises – whether it is a job loss, death, or domestic violence victims being relocated – The Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division is able to lend a helping hand because of the amazing support from Mattress World.
The reality is that the Annual Mattress World Golf Tournament allows the Sunshine Division to stay open year round and keeps services available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. In 2010, the Mattress World Golf Tournament raised over $54,000 for the Sunshine Division – this donation keeps the lights on and doors open so the Sunshine Division can give free food and clothing to more than 500 families each month.
